IoT solutions for waste collection

Process optimisation to reduce costs.

01

The future of waste collection

Waste management is now a very high-tech sector. It is no longer just a matter of “picking up the rubbish”, but of optimising processes to reduce costs, improve environmental impact and ensure full traceability of the waste lifecycle.

Rugged Tablet for Environmental and Maintenance Services

Rugged“ tablets are mainly used by ground personnel and plant operators.
The main uses are in the collection centres (Ecological Islands) where operators use the rugged tablets to record citizens' deliveries, check permits and manage the inventory of loaded/unloaded bins; environmental inspectors to document (with photos and GPS) any illegal dumping or errors in delivery; Asset maintenance, scanning QR codes or tags on roadside bins to report faults, cleaning needs or extraordinary emptying.

Vehicle Tablets for Navigation and Fleet Monitoring

The “vehicular” tablets are permanently mounted in the cab via special mounts (RAM-Mount). They are connected directly to the truck's control unit and its battery.
Among the main modes of use are navigation and route optimisation: vehicle tablets receive optimised daily routes in real time to reduce fuel consumption and journey times; telemetry and monitoring of the day, communicating the status of the vehicle, the weight of the load picked up and the completion of the assigned zone to the control centre; interfacing with the vehicle in order to monitor the number of emptyings carried out or to activate on-board sensors.

RFID Systems for Utility Identification and Waste Tracking

RFID (Radio Frequency Identification) integrated on “rugged” handhelds is the key tool for door-to-door collection and warehouse management.
The main uses are on bins/cans: each bin has a unique RFID tag associated with a user (citizen or company); on collection vehicles: the vehicle is equipped with an antenna (reader) that reads the RFID tag when the bin is emptied.
With these technological devices, the company can prove that the service has taken place, identify the areas that produce the most waste, and calculate the costs based on the actual emptying.

Why a Rugged Device is Essential for Your Business

Many wonder why not use a commercial smartphone?
The answer lies in the operational efficiency of a rugged device: battery life, barcode reader, RFID antenna, dust, water and drop resistance, not to mention technical support, repair and product warranty.
